SPRAY TANNING
BEFORE/AFTERCARE ADVICE & HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR TAN LONGER
For best results, please follow the below steps before your tanning session.
The day before your Tanning session.
-
1. Exfoliate thoroughly
-
Use a gentle scrub, exfoliating mitt, or dry brush.
-
Focus on rough areas: elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists.
-
Avoid oil-based scrubs — oils create a barrier and prevent the tanning solution from absorbing evenly.
-
2. Shave or wax (if you do)
-
Shave or wax at least 12–24 hours before your tan.
-
This gives your pores time to close and prevents “dotting” (when the solution settles in open pores).
-
3. Moisturize — but correctly (Not the day of.)
-
Moisturize well the night before, especially in dry areas.
-
Don’t apply heavy oils or petroleum jelly. A normal lotion is perfect.
-
4. Avoid other products that can block the tan
-
Skip deodorants, antiperspirants, self-tanner, retinol, AHAs/BHAs, and anything heavy or irritating.
-
5. Do any beauty services beforehand
-
If you need these, do them the day before:
-
Mani/pedi
-
Facials
-
Massages (oils can create uneven patches)
-
Lash extensions
-
Brow waxing/threading
-
6. Hydrate
-
Drink water. Well-hydrated skin = longer-lasting tan.
Day of your Tanning session.
Plan your clothing for the day of
Set out:
-
Dark, loose clothing
-
Loose sandals or flip-flops
-
No leggings, tight bras, or socks
(This prevents rubbing your fresh tan off!)
-
Option to shower the day of but without soap. No exfoliating the day of!
-
-
Do not apply moisturizers or oils. (no makeup)
-
Wear loose dark clothing for your tan, and some loose-fitting shoes, open-toe sandals, or flip-flops are preferable so as not to disturb the tan.
-
Avoid wearing aftershave, deodorant, or any other products on the day of your tan as these can affect the treatment, so make sure you shower before you come to the salon for your tan (do not use soap).
AFTER
After your Tanning session.
-
Wear loose dark clothing after your tan to minimize rubbing against your skin.
-
Do not shower for at least 8 hours after the tan (we recommend 12 hours)
-
Do not participate in any activity which may cause perspiration for at least 12 hours after treatment
-
The guide color can be left on overnight, although it may transfer onto bed linen.
-
Keep skin completely dry, and avoid water contact.
-
Shower rather than a bath, when showering.
-
Your tan will not give you protection from the sun, therefore use your usual sunscreen.
-
no soap your first rinse. Pat dry, and moisturize 2x a day until tan is gone.
Maintaining your Tan
-
Use body lotion each day after the tan has developed to maintain the color
-
After showering pat the skin dry rather than rubbing
-
Avoid swimming pools as chlorine can bleach the tan and salt water, as these can reduce your tan.
-
When shaving uses an electric razor, or a fresh triple or quad blade razor with new blades and plenty of lubrication to minimize spray tan removal.
